How Often Should I Service My Mini Split?

Modified on Wed, 2 Apr at 1:29 PM

Why Regular Maintenance Matters

Just like a car, your mini split needs routine service to stay in peak condition. Regular maintenance helps extend the lifespan of your system, improves efficiency, and helps avoid costly breakdowns — especially during extreme weather.

Recommended Service Schedule

1. Basic Maintenance (Homeowner) – Every 1 to 2 Months

  • Clean the air filters: Every 30–60 days (more often if you have pets, smoke, or allergies).
  • Wipe down the indoor unit: Keep the surface clean and dust-free.
  • Inspect the outdoor unit: Clear away leaves, dirt, or debris that could block airflow.

2. Professional Maintenance (HVAC Technician) – Once Per Year

Schedule a full inspection and tune-up at least once a year — ideally in the spring (before summer) or fall (before heating season).

  • Check refrigerant levels
  • Test electrical connections and controls
  • Clean the evaporator and condenser coils
  • Inspect the drain line and pan
  • Ensure sensors and thermostat are calibrated

Signs You May Need Service Sooner

  • Reduced cooling or heating performance
  • Strange noises or vibrations
  • Unusual odors from the indoor unit
  • Water leaks or ice build-up
  • Unit turns on and off frequently (short cycling)

Tip: If you notice any of the above, don’t wait for your annual checkup — submit a support ticket or call a licensed technician.

Maintenance Log Template (Optional)

We recommend keeping a quick log of filter cleanings and service visits. This helps track your system's health and ensures warranty compliance.

  • Last filter cleaned: ___________
  • Next filter clean due: ___________
  • Last pro service: ___________
  • Next scheduled checkup: ___________
