What is SEER2?

Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating 2 is the most commonly used efficiency rating for in cooling mode.   It is calculated by dividing the total heat removed from a conditioned space during the annual cooling season (measured in British Thermal Units, or BTUs) by the total electrical energy consumed by the air conditioner or heat pump during the same period (measured in watt-hours).   The higher the SEER2 rating, the more efficient the heat pump.
