Error Code: EC 71 – Overcurrent Failure of Outdoor DC Fan Motor
What this means:
The outdoor DC fan motor is drawing too much current, which can result from physical blockage, motor failure, wiring issues, or a defective PCB. The unit shuts down to prevent circuit or component damage.
Try this first (quick reset):
Turn off power to the unit completely.
Wait 2 full minutes.
Turn the unit back on and check if the error clears.
If the error clears — the fault may have been temporary.
If the error returns — proceed with the steps below.
Next steps (for technicians):
Manually rotate the outdoor fan:
If it does not spin freely, inspect for obstructions or bearing issues.
Resolve any mechanical blockages.
Check the fan motor wiring:
If improperly wired → correct the connections.
If damaged → repair or replace wires.
Measure fan motor voltage (DC motor with internal chip):
Pin Wire Color Signal Voltage Range 1 Red Vs/Vm 192–380V 3 Black GND 0V 4 White Vcc 13.5–16.5V 5 Yellow Vsp 0–6.5V (speed signal) 6 Blue FG 13.5–16.5V If any voltage is out of range → replace the main PCB.
If fan motor uses UVW wiring (chip on PCB):
Measure resistance between U–V, U–W, V–W.
If readings are unequal → replace the fan motor.
If readings are equal → replace the PCB.
What you might need:
Outdoor fan motor
Outdoor main PCB
Fan assembly
Connection wires
Helpful tip:
EC 71 and EC 07 share the same diagnosis tree. Always check both physical and electrical behavior of the fan before replacing components.
