Error Code: EC 71 – Overcurrent Failure of Outdoor DC Fan Motor
What this means:
The outdoor unit has detected an overcurrent condition in the DC fan motor. This typically happens when the fan is obstructed, drawing too much current, or if the fan motor or PCB has failed. The system shuts down to prevent further damage.
Try this first (quick reset):
Turn off power to the unit completely.
Wait 2 full minutes.
Turn the unit back on and check the display.
If the error clears — the issue may have been temporary.
If the error remains — follow the troubleshooting steps below.
Next steps (for technicians):
Manually check the fan:
With power off, spin the outdoor fan by hand.
If it doesn’t spin freely → inspect for physical obstructions or bearing failure.
Inspect wiring:
Check fan motor connections for loose, damaged, or reversed wires.
Reconnect or replace as needed.
Measure voltage from outdoor PCB to fan motor (for DC motor with internal chip):
Pin 1 (Red) to Pin 3 (Black): 192V–380V
Pin 4 (White) to Pin 3 (Black): 13.5–16.5V
Pin 5 (Yellow – Speed signal): 0–6.5V
If voltages are incorrect → replace the outdoor PCB.
Test resistance (for fan motors with UVW wires):
Check U–V, U–W, V–W.
If resistance values are not equal → replace the fan motor.
What you might need:
DC fan motor
Outdoor PCB
Fan assembly
Connection wires
Helpful tip:
Always check for physical resistance or dirt buildup in the fan housing before replacing electrical parts. Unequal resistance between motor terminals usually indicates internal motor damage.
