Error Code: PC 02 – Compressor Top or IPM Temperature Protection

What this means:
The system has detected that the IPM (Intelligent Power Module) or the compressor top has exceeded its safe operating temperature. To prevent damage, the unit shuts down and displays this error code.

Try this first (quick reset):

  1. Turn off power to the unit completely.

  2. Wait 2 full minutes.

  3. Turn it back on and check if the error clears.

  • If the error clears — overheating may have been temporary.

  • If the error remains — proceed with the following steps.

Next steps (for technicians):

  1. Check IPM mounting and thermal contact:

    • Inspect whether the fastening screws on the PCB and IPM radiator are properly secured.

    • If loose → tighten the screws and apply silicon thermal grease between the IPM and the heatsink.

  2. Check for airflow and cooling issues:

    • Ensure the outdoor fan is operating.

    • Clear any debris or dirt from the heat exchanger.

    • Make sure ventilation is not blocked.

  3. If properly installed and still overheating:

    • Replace the outdoor PCB or IPM module board as necessary.

What you might need:

  • IPM module board

  • Outdoor PCB

  • High-pressure protector

  • System blockage cleaning tools

  • Thermal grease

  • Connection wires

Helpful tip:
This error often results from poor thermal contact between the IPM and its radiator. Reapplying thermal grease and properly securing the screws often resolves the issue without part replacement.
